SMART Recovery Australia

SMART (Self-Management And Recovery Training) Australia enables the delivery of SMART Recovery mutual aid meetings supporting people with behaviours of concern (addictive behaviours) across Australia.

The Position

There are two National Program Manager & Trainers within the organisation, and they are the primary interface with SMART facilitators, groups and third party partner organisations. The Program Manager & Trainers’ primary responsibilities are the training of facilitators and the growth and development of the SMART program throughout Australia. Other important responsibilities of the role are to maintain program fidelity and continually applying the lessons learnt from the research and evaluation into the training and program.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist the further development of SMART facilitator training and execution of SMART online and face-to-face training across Australia
  • Assist in the continual improvement of SMART programs
  • Assist the further growth of SMART Recovery groups in Australia, by including the development of strategic partnerships
  • Assist with the support of facilitators and groups across Australia
  • Facilitate at least one SMART Recovery meeting weekly (in your home city, or online)
  • Assist the development and implementation of SMART Recovery Australia’s programs
  • Assist with research, evaluation and the application of research into practice of the SMART training and program
  • Convene and participate in committees relevant to your role, as determined through discussion with the Executive Director
  • Be prepared to travel interstate regularly

Additional Information

  • Due to the scope of the role, interstate travel will be required
  • Overnight stays will be required on occasion, for example for training, conferences or team meetings in other parts of the country. These will be paid for by SMART Recovery Australia
  • You will receive SMART Recovery facilitator training

Essential criteria

  • An appropriate tertiary qualification in education, program and/or training development, health promotion or similar, or/and extensive experience in these fields
  • A high level of awareness of the alcohol and other drugs, addiction, and mental health fields
  • Have had solid experience in e-learning and face-to-face development and training
  • Can demonstrate excellence in facilitation, presentation, and engagement skills
  • Can demonstrate understanding of the needs of vulnerable participants
  • Can demonstrate a solid understanding of models of peer support
  • Have had applied research and evaluation experience
  • Have a high level of written, verbal, and information technology skills

Desirable Criteria

  • Have been/are a SMART Recovery Facilitator
  • Have an understanding and experience with a Train the Trainer model
  • Have had experience in paid or voluntary work for a Not-for-Profit organisation

Other Relevant Information

Eligibility:

To be appointed to this position you must be an Australian/New Zealand Citizen, or an Australian Permanent Resident currently residing in Australia.

Terms:

  • Remuneration based on knowledge and experience - up to $100,000 per annum, exclusive of compulsory superannuation

Hours of work:

  • Full time (37.5 hours per week, exclusive of meal breaks)
  • Flexible working hours

Place of work:

  • Sydney based - Pyrmont
  • The role is to be undertaken between the SMART Recovery Australia office and working from home. The balance of between office based and work from home will be developed to meet the organisation’s needs through discussion with the Executive Director.
