We are currently a seeking passionate and enthusiastic Cultural Services Manager to lead and support our staff team to deliver culturally safe services. Alongside this role you will also be leading our Youth Advocacy program to ensure the voices of our youth are heard and incorporated into all the work we do.

About Stepping Stone House

Stepping Stone House is a not for profit charity that provides accommodation and personal development for children and young people aged 12-25 years old who through no fault of their own find themselves homeless, at risk of homelessness or unable to live at home.

About the Role

Aboriginal young people are highly over-represented in the care system, making up 36% of all young people in care.

At Stepping Stone House one of our foundational stones is to ensure all our services and programs are delivered in a culturally safe way and that all our young people feel safe and continue to be connected to their culture.

This exciting new role ensure Stepping Stone House operates in a culturally safe way and ensure the voices of our young people are being considered throughout all aspects of service development.

What you will be doing – Key responsibilities

  • Provide cultural supervision for our Aboriginal workforce
  • Review cultural case plans to ensure the cultural needs of all our young people are being met.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local Aboriginal organisations
  • Lead the development of a Reconciliation Action plan
  • Review all programs to ensure they are being delivered in a culturally sensitive manner
  • Assist in the development of new programs
  • Facilitate the youth advocacy group and report back any feedback/recommendations from our young people.

Selection Criteria

Candidates must address the essential and desirable criteria below with their application.

Essential Criteria

  • Aboriginality (Aboriginality is considered a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977)
  • Qualification in the social work, youth work or related field.
  • Experience working with disadvantaged young people 12 to 25 years in a residential youth settings or similar field.
  • Experience in engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, Organisations, people’s and communities.
  • Working with Children Certification
  • A current driver’s license
  • In depth understanding of homelessness, the impacts and trauma of being removed from the family and the experiences of young people in a residential setting.
  • Demonstrated evidence of working with young people with challenging behaviours and the strategies you use.
  • Demonstrated experience and or understanding of Trauma Informed Care and willingness to work within a therapeutic framework.

Desirable criteria

  • First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • High level of computer literacy including Microsoft products

Salary and Conditions of employment are based on the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award Level 4. Salary Packaging is available.
