About the Team

99 Steps is a specialised Domestic and Family Violence program that offers culturally sensitive services to women from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds residing in the Logan and Beenleigh. The program considers an intersectional approach, which includes individual advocacy, case management, safety planning, risk assessments, information and referrals, crisis support and counselling to address the unique needs and challenges faced by women accessing the service.

About You

The Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Practitioner will provide brief counselling, case management support, information, advocacy and referral services to women and children from refugee and migrant backgrounds in Logan/Beenleigh who are impacted by domestic and family violence. This will include intake and assessment, safety planning, trauma-informed and solutions-focussed brief counselling, case management, the provision of information and referral to other services and referral to court assistance programs for domestic and family violence matters. Services provided may include the provision of information and referral for perpetrators of domestic violence.

The 99 Steps team works closely and collaboratively with staff and programs across the organisation as well as with service providers within the broader community and is a member of the Logan/Beenleigh Integrated Services Response.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work or human services field and/or relevant experience and working towards obtaining qualifications.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in working with women and their families impacted by domestic and family violence.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities particularly newly arrived women from refugee and migrant backgrounds.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication framework and practices, that are congruent with a strengths-based approach and demonstrated professional integrity, with respect to such matters as confidentiality and client interests.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in negotiation, interpretation, advocacy and conflict resolution alongside emotionally regulated responses.
  • To understand and have a willingness to work from a feminist and rights/advocacy framework which values cultural diversity and recognises the disadvantages faced by women and children of CALD.
