About the opportunity

SSI has partnered with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to deliver services as a Local Area Coordinator (LAC) in NSW. We support people aged 7 and over to access the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and other mainstream services in the community. We want to ensure our workforce reflects the participants we work with to help meet their needs, and are seeking candidates with disability to bring their own experience and insight to this role.

Team leaders will oversee frontline teams to ensure effective delivery of the service including the development, implementation and review of Participant NDIS plans. They are responsible for ongoing daily support to Local Area Coordinators to deliver quality supports and services to participants and customers.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Coach and mentor team members in supporting individuals to access the NDIS and utilise their Plans.
  • Allocation and monitoring of LAC workloads and workflows to achieve targets across the team and to manage staff wellbeing.
  • Act as an escalation point for complaints/complex queries and issues that are outside of normal process/procedure
  • Work in partnership with members of the Leadership team to identify opportunities for capacity building in the local community.
  • Encourage, support and resource team members to build positive partnerships between individuals, families, carers, local organisations, businesses and the broader community to build a more inclusive, welcoming and accessible community.
  • Identify opportunities in collaboration with team members where they can participate in and contribute to the local community, including community-driven education, events and capacity building.
  • Work with NDIA counterparts to ensure quality plans are built and congruent to NDIA reasonable and necessary guidelines and are implemented and reviewed in expected timeframes.
  • Work in collaboration with multiple teams across the program to strive towards an inclusive safe one team culture.

About You

The team leader will be expected to have strong leadership skills with the ability to successfully work and adapt in high pressure situations. They will have experience in managing a diverse team committed to person-centred practice whilst modelling positive behaviours that encourage accountability in all team members as they deliver the LAC services.

  • Relevant qualifications in human services or community development and/or Demonstrated experience working in the human services sector (e.g. disability, child services, allied health, social work, community development, education) and/or relevant qualifications or training in social inclusion, community development and engagement or person-centred thinking and planning.
  • Demonstrated experience leading high performing teams in a fast-paced, KPI and outcomes driven environment.
  • Ability to use and navigate a variety of complex reporting mechanisms including client databases and Microsoft Excel.
  • Awareness of the impact of disability upon individuals, families, carer and the community and is empathetic with a genuine desire to help people with disabilities gain a better life.
  • Experienced and confident in working with a diverse range of people, cultures and circumstances.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision, manage a variety of tasks and display personal drive and integrity.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly across the SWS and Sydney Districts to attend Participant meetings, team meetings etc.
