About the Function

(Multicultural Child and Family Program)

SSI delivers a specialist out-of-home care and permanency support services that provides a culturally appropriate model for children and young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds aged 0-18 years. We have a strong commitment to culturally responsive services. Wherever possible, as needed, we support children to be cared for by foster carers who share the same culture as the children or where this is not possible we maximise opportunities for children to be connected with their family's ethnic backgrounds, religion/s and language/s.

About the role

As Manager you will lead and supervise the day to day responsibilities of a small team to deliver foster care services by the relevant team member in a timely manner, including contract compliance, program performance and continuous quality improvement.
Your day will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Encourage, support and manage a team; work closely with your direct Manager and other team members within the program;
  • Ensure that the intake system is working effectively and make certain that all intake, case allocation, review and backup activities and processes are in place to maintain a high level of responsiveness and a quality service;
  • Ensure that all assessments and reports are accurate, of high standards and provided in a reasonable time frame; referrals are responded to in a timely manner and that appropriate placements are made utilising the SSI matching process;
  • Assist in the monitoring of a high standard of case management practice for all clients of the Foster Care program, ensuring the completion of individual placement plans, monitoring and review mechanisms compliant with the Standards of Alternative Care and the CYPS Act 2017
  • Work with CALD and Aboriginal communities from a trauma informed and culturally sensitive approaches, while supporting the Community Relations Coordinator with strategic planning to design and recruit carers who meet the needs of the children.

About you

The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills & experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, welfare/community services or a related discipline;
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of child development, attachment theory and the impact of trauma on children and young people;
  • Previous experience working with vulnerable children, young people and their families and an understanding of current child protection legislation/framework and out of home care practice models;
  • Leadership/management experience with the ability to successfully work and adapt in high pressured situations;
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal with an ability to lead and inspire a team and others;
  • Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong working relationships and work collaboratively across a number of stakeholders;
  • A full unrestricted NSW drivers' licence;
