Stand Up: Jewish Commitment to a Better World

Life is short. And it's certainly too short to miss an opportunity to give and to contribute. Being a Director on the Stand Up Board is a unique opportunity to help shape an organisation that is leading the charge in the Australian Jewish Community to create a better world.

About Stand Up

Our Purpose is simple.

As Jews, we have a responsibility to improve our world.

Stand Up exists to channel the collective willpower, expertise and compassion of the Australian Jewish community to grasp and fulfil this responsibility.

Our Mission is ambitious.

We are steadfast in our mission to inspire and mobilise the Australian Jewish community, and to work together with marginalised communities to tackle Australia’s most pressing social challenges through action and education.

Our Values define who we are.

  1. Education and action are inseparable.
  2. We work in partnership: Every community is an autonomous, unique and complex group of individuals who face different challenges that require different solutions. By working in partnership, anything can be changed.
  3. We act as allies and we consult deeply.
  4. Our work is underpinned by our Judaism.
  5. We are non-partisan but not uncontroversial: We won’t be silent on important issues.
  6. Dynamic and best practice: We’re committed to delivering dynamic, innovative and adaptive programming and we won’t compromise on striving towards best practice in the end-to-end delivery of everything that we do.
  7. We apply a gender lens to our work: We pledge to apply a gender lens to our organisational and programming decisions to ensure our programs continue to address and combat gender inequality.
  8. Sustainable programs, common goals: We’re committed to delivering programs that create sustainable and enduring solutions and deliver on their promises.
  9. We never lose sight of why we exist.

About the Stand Up Board

Our Board serves as the guardian of Stand Up's Purpose, Mission and Values.

We're friendly and informal in our approach, but serious in our pursuit of social justice. We embrace difference and robust discussion in the search for the best outcome, but we're supportive and respectful of others' views.

We are proud of our involvement with Stand Up and we're thrilled to represent the work of the organisation.

We love to get out in nature for our annual retreat to scheme and dream.

When we're at our best, our WhatsApp group is singing with ideas and our Board meetings are whole-hearted and optimistic.
