Science Curriculum Writer, Physics

Stile Education

Over the last 18 months, we have been living through what will be the most historic global event since the Second World War. It’s scary, it’s confusing – especially for our youngest citizens – and misinformation is rife. It is more important than ever that our schools are armed with the tools, resources and training they need to guide our students. Not just to understand the facts of this pandemic, though that is of course important, but how to stop and critically evaluate those facts for themselves.

We create world-class resources for science teachers (we call them superheroes, because… they are). Stile’s resources are used by 1 in 3 Australian secondary schools. All our resources are delivered through our web-based teaching and learning platform and it’s all been built right here in Australia. Every single day, over 100,000 students and 8,000 teachers around the country (and increasingly around the world) use our resources.

To get a bit of a feel for what we do, check out our latest lesson on the COVID-19 Pandemic.

We want to help teach scientific literacy skills – from designing investigations to critically evaluating what is written in the media. These skills are essential for success in school, but are also essential skills for life.

That’s why we need your help! We need an innovative physics teacher to join our team to help us create kick-ass resources starting in January 2022! We’re passionate about giving students the best science education ever and we hope you are too. Ultimately, we’re looking for someone with creative and innovative ideas to join the team. You need to love science and be awesome at communicating it to others.

The Details

What’s in it for you:

  • You’ll join an amazing 50-strong team of teachers, scientists, artists and engineers. Imagine a workplace where everyone genuinely cares about, and is working towards, improving scientific literacy amongst our young citizens. We hold ourselves and each other to a high standard and love what we do.
  • You’ll be working on something that really matters. In partnership with teachers, we’re coaching students to become problem solvers and critical thinkers. The internet democratised information. We believe that with a strong command of science, tomorrow’s citizens and leaders have a fighting chance of sorting the misinformation from the facts.
  • You’ll work with the Content team to create a range of learning resources that include lessons and videos. You’ll also work with our in-house illustrators to create cool infographics and posters and our Engineering team to create interactive simulations.
  • Your own professional development – we’re lifelong learners here at Stile. Alongside teaching you everything you need to know to succeed in this role, you’ll have the opportunity to attend internal and external PD.
  • The annual company snow trip (COVID willing, of course).
  • A Mac laptop, and whatever other bits and pieces you need to be productive remotely.

How you’ll spend your time

You’ll work side-by-side with our ‘dream team’ of other teachers, simulation designers, illustrators, animators and editors to make the best science resource in the known universe.

While a lot of your day will be spent writing lessons you’ll also be involved in writing and creating videos and posters that rock, as well as designing simulations that make difficult concepts easier to grasp in fun and engaging ways. You’ll also make sure our lessons have all the bells and whistles to make teachers’ lives easier, such as model answers and supporting teacher notes.

A bit more about you

  • You have a physics teaching background – this is essential for success in this role.
  • You’re passionate about sharing your love of science and maths with others and urgently want to share your passion with hundreds of thousands of students across Australia and beyond.
  • You’re an excellent writer. You can communicate complex scientific ideas clearly to a younger audience.
  • You’re creative. You know how to bring content alive for students.
  • You love working in a fast-paced environment. We’re small; we move quickly.
  • You’re eager to learn. Super eager. You soak up feedback, incorporate it, and are constantly driven to be better. You can’t help it.
  • You’re smart and you love to get shit done.
  • You’re constantly thinking about how you could do your job better and accept feedback willingly. But you also aren’t afraid to defend something when you think it’s right.

Hours and location

This is a full time, permanent role with some flexible work hours. While we think collaboration in an office environment is an important part of building the best possible resources. We also appreciate that working from home or away from the office both offers time to really concentrate and the flexibility needed in modern life. Need to pick up the kids? No worries – we’re all about what you achieve, not the hours of the day that you achieve it.

As part of the social distancing measures being put in place to curb the spread of COVID-19, we’re currently working fully remote, so you’ll need to be able to work from home. In normal times, our (awesome) office is located on Exhibition Street in Melbourne CBD.
