St John has been delivering first aid and community medical support services to the NSW community for over 130 years. The scope of these services has grown to include:

  • First aid training, including specialist courses for mental health, high risk work sites, workplaces, and free first aid training to primary school children
  • Event health services, keeping people safe at events right across NSW, ranging from small local gatherings to large scale events
  • Equipping individuals, families and workplaces with high quality first aid products and services
  • Working alongside emergency services organisations in times of need and disasters
  • Workplace Health & Covid 19 related services such as contracted Nursing & Paramedic services and temperature testing  

About the Role

The HCP Hub Leader is a volunteer position with St John NSW where you can dedicate time to volunteering with an agile organisation working towards providing community health services. 

Reporting into the Specialist Teams Zone Leader, the HCP Hub Leader is responsible for managing several smaller groups of HCP’s (Health Care Professionals) who will collectively increase the capacity for St John NSW to provide operational services across a number of core areas.

The HCP Hub Leader will do this by developing a team of volunteer medical officers, nurses and paramedics who are able to enhance St John NSW's base of clinicians to deliver care at high-risk events, major events and provide specific capabilities such as critical care teams and mental health teams.

This a virtual role that will mainly be operated from your personal location via technology (Teams, Zoom, Telephone etc). However attending events, and emergency services operations centres during emergency situations or disasters may be required.

You will be responsible for;

  • Volunteer HCP workforce planning and recruitment to ensure St John NSW has sufficient capacity to meet current and future demands
  • Actively contribute to the development, implementation, and review of a volunteering strategy to deliver to the St John NSW vision, purpose and volunteer service model
  • Ensure that high-quality training, event health services, and technical training and social activities are delivered
  • Partner with the Clinical Advisory Group to coordinate relevant training and accreditation programmes for the HCP’s in this hub
  • The Motivation, coaching, and development of direct reports and the whole team through performance conversations to grow their leadership capabilities and performance
  • Responsible for promoting a safe workplace culture to ensure St John provides a safe workplace for volunteers

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Is a Registered Health Care Professional with unconditional, general registration, for either:
    • Registered Nurse
    • Medical Officer
    • Registered Paramedic
  • Demonstrated experience in customer service and community engagement
  • Proven experience in volunteer leadership and engagement 
  • Have the ability to attract other HCP’s to volunteer for St. John
  • Comfortable utilising technology as a tool for engagement 
  • Familiarity with the workings of health services 
  • Previous experience managing large groups is preferred 
  • Capacity to commit the time necessary to perform the role
  • Ability to deliver effective written and oral communication 
  • Holds a current NSW Working with Children Check and national police check for volunteer clearance
