About the Role

The Safety Partner will on a fixed term basis provide additional project support to continue to strengthen Health & Safety (H&S) and the achievement of the ChildWise Child Safety accreditation over a 6 month period to demonstrate the commitment of best practice in child safety. 

The role will provide health and safety leadership and support to reduce injuries through:

  • Ensuring that the current H&S policies, procedures, safety systems and reporting are reviewed across all of St John NSW
  • Completing the identified H&S project initiatives identified in 2020
  • Responding and providing advice on safety enquiries and safety matters
  • Providing support to the Health & Safety Committee

This role will lead the Child Safety Project to continue to support the safety of our over 900 Cadets by ensuring the following:

  • All the 10 Child Safe Standards identified in the project plan are fully implemented within the required time frame
  • Organise the Focus Groups and audit requirements for the ChildWise accreditation process
  • To implement the outstanding audit requirements

Our Ideal Candidate

  • At least 5 years working in a Health and Safety role and/or Child Safety role with solid safety experience 
  • Experience in Child Safety and/or Human Resources is desirable
  • Understands that safety is more than just systems, procedures and compliance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to enable effective and appropriate interaction with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong team player who can work autonomously as a specialist role
  • Effective organisation and time management skills with the ability to multitask 
  • Demonstrates strong customer service and business partnership orientation
  • Proven ability to lead, plan and execute projects
  • Able to demonstrate empathy with the ethos of the organisation
  • Able to work effectively within a commercial and not-for-profit cultural environment
