The City of Stonnington possesses a diverse range of high quality and well-maintained open space. Drawing on your passion for horticulture, you will pride yourself working in high quality parks and gardens within a positive and supportive team environment. You will be required to apply your comprehensive knowledge of the requirements of the various plants within in our City’s parks, reserves and streetscapes by identifying and undertaking the weed control, pruning, feeding, mulching and water requirements.

You will also carry out planting in Council owned parks, gardens and buildings – selecting plants based on horticultural knowledge.

This is a permanent part time position of 16 hours per week with a flexible work pattern. Based on those part time hours, the annual salary is $25,918 - $27,911 per annum + 10% superannuation.

  • Maintenance gardening skills capable of caring for a diverse range of open space settings, including significant parks and natural environment areas
  • Experience safely operating horticultural machinery in accordance with Safe Work Procedures and Safe Work Method Statements
  • The training and ability to carry out routine playground equipment inspections
  • Demonstrated industry experience relevant to municipal horticulture in significant and high profile public gardens
  • Effective communication skills to work cooperatively with staff, the community and Council customers.
  • The ability to implement Traffic Management Plans when working within any roadway
  • A relevant Trade Certificate, chemical users certificate and competent in the use of relevant mechanical plant, procedures and processes used within the unit with substantial relevant work experience
