About our partnership: 

Stride, in partnership with Wellways and Clarity Health Care will soon be opening the Western NSW Medicare Mental Health Centre, with locations in Dubbo and Bathurst. The Medicare Mental Health Centres, formerly Head to Health, are an important part of the Australia’s reformed mental health and wellbeing system. 

The Medicare Mental Health Centre is supported by funding from Western NSW Primary Health Network through the Australian Government’s PHN Program. The Dubbo and Bathurst Medicare Mental Health Centres will provide the community with a free, safe and welcoming space to access mental health advice, supports and services. Walk-ins will be welcomed, services are confidential, and no appointment or referral will be required. 

About the service: 

The services in Dubbo and Bathurst are funded by the Australian Government, to provide a streamlined approach to support better mental health and social wellbeing across the country. The service is tailored to the needs of the community in regional NSW and provides a combination of peer-led recovery and clinical support. 

The Medicare Mental Health Centre provides a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for people experiencing psychological distress, providing an alternative to presenting to the Emergency Department for low risk individuals, and allowing them to access support from trained mental health professionals within their community, outside a clinical setting.

Role Overview:

As part of the multidisciplinary team, the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Clinician will provide focused psychological strategies tailored to meet the individual needs of people accessing the service within a community based mental health care setting. As well as working with relevant service systems to respond appropriately to their mental health and developmental needs.

  • Provide comprehensive assessment, brief and ongoing interventions, risk management and care planning
  • Work collaboratively across health service networks to plan and coordinate individualised psychosocial interventions to meet the needs of people with mental health issues based on a case formulation approach
  • Work cooperatively and effectively through active participation within the multidisciplinary mental health team, the profession specific network and with consumers, families/carers and extended agencies

Requirements:

  • Must have one of the following: General AHPRA registration as a Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist, Mental Health Occupational Therapist OR Mental Health Nurse OR AASW registration as an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker
  • Demonstrated a comprehensive level of knowledge, expertise and skill; specifically, Brief Intervention Models of Care Commitment to professional development and willingness to participate in a continuous learning environment
  • Well-developed judgment and evaluation skills demonstrating a working understanding assessment and care planning
  • Sound understanding of the public, non-government and private mental health systems and programs and associated non-mental health programs in a community setting
  • Ideally demonstrated experience in providing alcohol and other drugs (AOD) counselling and support 
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills showing an ability and sensitivity to work with people who have or are at risk of developing a mental illness
  • Proven ability to work creatively, collaboratively and effectively as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated skills in organisation and time-management, including the ability to work under pressure and balance multiple tasks
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
  • Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a WWCC
  • Must hold/be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance
