Role overview:

  • Provide quality support and services to young people with a mental health issue who live in residential service. 
  • Work collaboratively with young people in their recovery.
  • Provide support that is client-focused, community oriented, and sensitive.
  • Assist young people with mental health issues to develop and maintain relationships, which facilitate independence.
  • Assist young people with mental health issues to improve their daily living skills through guidance, supervision, and encouragement.
  • Mentor and act as role models for young people in building positive social skills, utilising effective conflict management and negotiation, and building healthy relationships.
  • Encourage and educate young people on healthy living habits to support emotional well being.
  • Encourage the growth of self-esteem, self-worth, and self-confidence in the young people

Requirements:

  • Minimum of Cert IV in Mental Health, Community Services or other related discipline (ideally a completed Diploma or Bachelors) 
  • Experience in working with young people experiencing mental health issues
  • Demonstrated capacity to relate to young people, their families/carers, and other stakeholders with dignity and respect
  • Ability to assess risk and follow relevant protocols to manage crisis situations calmly and effectively
  • Demonstrated and effective listening and communication skills in both written and verbal formats.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the principles of duty of care, and rights to privacy and confidentiality
  • Ability to help program participants link in with other relevant community resources and to promote the rights, responsibilities and recovery of young people
  • Must be available for overnight shifts
  • Must be available to work a rotating 24/7 roster
  • Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a Blue Card
  • Must hold a current/ be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance 
  • Current Driver's license
