Responsible Recruitment and Forced Labour Trainer

Stronger Together

Stronger Together supports organisations to tackle hidden labour exploitation and forced labour risks within their operations and supply chains. A business-led, multi-stakeholder and collaborative initiative, we focus on providing support, training and resources that are practical, pragmatic and easy for any business, of any size to understand and use. Originating and headquartered in the UK, we have grown to have a global reach, with a global team across the UK, South Africa and the US, and running projects and programmes with experts across the world.

Based on growing interest from businesses in Australia, we have launched capacity building resources for Australian businesses. We are looking to start offering participatory training workshops (in person/online) aimed at increasing knowledge of and equipping businesses in Australia to prevent and tackle forced labour, implement responsible recruitment practices and minimise the risk to their businesses as well. Therefore, we are currently looking to recruit and train a trainer to:

  • Update the Stronger Together “Tackling Modern Slavery in Australian businesses” training workshop content
  • Deliver a pilot workshop
  • Be available to deliver workshops (based on demand)

Longer term, as we further integrate our own initiatives and activities on forced labour and responsible recruitment (see Responsible Recruitment Toolkit and Clearview certification), we expect opportunities to develop in the wider field of responsible recruitment, alongside forced labour mitigation.

Trainer profile

Given the sensitive nature of workshop and online sessions content including the planned interactive exercises and discussions, it is imperative that the chosen workshop facilitators have the following characteristics, skills and experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in facilitating workshops for a business audience
  • An in-depth understanding of labour exploitation, ethical trade and responsible recruitment in business operations and supply chains. Experience of working with businesses on ethical business behaviour, either working internally within a business or externally in partnership (e.g. not-for-profit organisation) or on a consultancy basis
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including good listening and summarisation skills
  • Ability to read the audience and to steer the discussions in an appropriate direction, given the topics under discussion
  • An unbiased perspective
  • A strong commitment to collaboration with the participants with the purpose of fostering a safe space for them to share their experiences and learn
  • Good mediation skills in the event that participants might have strong responses to information shared
  • Positive, can-do attitude
  • Ability to work remotely as part of a global team (we are a remote working organisation, so travel will only be necessary for in-person demands)
  • Language skills: fluent in English
  • Desirable: a strong understanding of and/or network in the Australian agricultural, consumer goods and/or construction sector
  • Desirable: a strong understanding of outsourced employment models, labour hire firms and the recruitment industry.
