The Role

Vinnies is embarking on an exciting journey with the newly created First Nations Traineeship program in partnership with TAFE NSW. This opportunity will open doors to gaining new skills and help unlock a great potential career with Vinnies, helping the most vulnerable in our society. There are currently 9 full-time traineeships available in various NSW locations including Sydney Metro, Inner West, Wagga Wagga, Nowra, Southern Highlands, Coffs Harbour, Cardiff and Macarthur.

Your new role as Housing and Homelessness First Nations Trainee will include:

  • Completing a Certificate III Community Services including attending classes and completing assessments: including practical elements of the learning.
  • Providing a safe and welcoming environment for clients who live at or are accessing the services that Vinnies provide.
  • Offering client support in a respectful, non-judgmental, inclusive attitude and manner, always upholding, and respecting the rights of clients.
  • Assisting clients to follow relevant rules and procedures of the service.
  • Maintaining client records and case notes, both electronic and handwritten
  • Working within and always adhere to the Vinnies Services policies and procedures.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
  • Willingness to undertake a Certificate III in Community Services.
  • Willingness to gain a first aid certificate.
  • An interest in supporting individuals and/or families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and may have underlying mental health, drug and alcohol addictions, trauma and/ or be fleeing Domestic and Family Violence.
  • Ability to maintain an ethical, yet non-judgmental, attitude towards clients & staff.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
