The Role:

Dynamic and rewarding role leading a small dedicated team of outreach case workers. Your effective leadership will promote the team to provide holistic, person centred support to people who are rough sleeping in the Newcastle area. The vital support you provide will be crucial in helping people stabilise and sustain their accommodation and ultimately transition away from homelessness.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Provide supervision, support, and leadership to case workers at Newcastle Assertive Outreach Team.
  • Provide case management that is 'person' focused, socially inclusive, non-judgemental' in conjunction with each client
  • Building capacity of the team and ensure all case plans are in place and reflect a person-centred approach.
  • Provide case management and/or accommodation services leadership and focuses the team on client outcomes.
  • Manage and record the expenditure of brokerage funds in accordance with the Societies policies and the Program Guidelines
  • Ensure all data/records are accurate and meet quality standards & provide monthly reports and statistics (SCIS) on activities as requested by the Manager
  • Provide a multidisciplinary & integrated approach to case planning, includes working with the Sustaining Tenancies Worker and monitoring On Call roster on weekends.
  • Advocate for clients where necessary, including government departments, courts and other service providers.

This role will report to the Manager Homelessness and Housing.

To be successful, you will need:

  • Relevant qualification/s in Social Work/Social Science/Community Welfare or equivalent work experience in the homeless sector (or extensive experience in the case work field)
  • Proven experience leading a team of caseworkers with the ability to build capacity and bring out the best in people.
  • Knowledge of case management principles especially trauma informed care practices.
  • Proven financial management skills, in particular managing budgets.
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse multi disciplinary team, with excellent interpersonal skills including negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Knowledge of community resources including drug and alcohol rehabilitation, mental health, legal assistance, income support, employment service providers, training and accommodation.
  • NSW driver licence - flexibility to travel to meet clients needs.
  • St Vincent de Paul (NSW) has a COVID- 19 vaccination policy that has identified this role as requiring a full COVID-19 vaccination. Medical exemptions with the NSW government contraindication form will be considered, subject to a satisfactory risk assessment
