THE ROLE

An excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join an outstanding multidisciplinary team working on the Specialist Disability Accommodation Tenant Outcomes project.

The opportunity is for two on-going, part-time (0.4 FTE) positions. Our preferred location is Melbourne (Box Hill), but we will consider Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

Are you a skilled Research Assistant experienced in undertaking research interviews with people with an acquired brain injury, neurological disease, early onset dementia or other disability?

The project focuses on the experiences and outcomes of people with disability who move into appropriately designed housing within the community. Working with Housing Providers across Australia, we aim to find out what works well for people and what could be improved and to inform the development of future housing and services. The outcomes of this project will help to shape future innovative housing models for people with complex disability in Australia.

Your background will be in Allied Health, such as (but not limited to) Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology or Neuropsychology and you will be confident in conducting interviews, have experience working with people living with disability and complex needs, and have an understanding of how to manage data collection and analysis sensitively and ethically..

If you were in the role last week you would have been working on:

  • Scheduling interviews with project participants
  • Interviewing participants via Zoom or telephone
  • Preparing interview notes and collating data
  • Meeting with the Project Team
  • Contributing to documenting the lived experience and impact of new housing developments for young people with disability

Key Responsibilities

  • University level education (psychology, nursing or health sciences bachelor degree) or equivalent experience (clinical practice)
  • Conducting and recording face-to-face and/or telephone interviews with participants, in accordance with predetermined interview protocol, data collection procedures and documentation standards, including monitoring for signs of fatigue
  • Undertaking completion of standardised measures with participants and/or close others, ensuring any complex communication or other needs are adequately accommodated
  • Contacting potential participants to introduce and explain study objectives and protocol and to arrange interviews, either in person or by telephone, including completing consent/research declarations as appropriate.
  • Using clinical judgment to determine participant suitability, appropriate administration of measures and appropriate interview time-frames

What experience and skills are we keen for you to have?

  • Demonstrated experience in clinical care provision and/ or ability to conduct high quality research interviews with people with an acquired brain injury, neurological disease, early onset dementia or other disability
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal direction and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong organisational skills, the capacity to successfully manage competing priorities, maintain attention to detail and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of the NDIS is desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to research and research outputs (e.g., ethics applications, project descriptions, literature reviews, peer-reviewed publications) is desirable

Requirements
