Takes responsibility for financial management, operations and compliance of the organisation. These are senior roles that are expected to operate with a high level of judgement, initiative and self-management with the ability to solve problems and predict and manage risks appropriately. Expected to operate with minimal supervision and to manage contractors, junior staff and budgets as appropriate.

About You

You are driven by a passion to solve the climate crisis. You love systems and processes that are lean and flexible but robust without being overly bureaucratic. You get how to support people to use these systems and bring people with you on that journey.

You enjoy helping our staff solve problems and get the best out of our IT services as well as proactively identifying ways to streamline our work and improve the security and resilience of our IT environment. You are a quick thinker and problem solver who is super-organised and passionate about tech and people.

About The Role

The role works both strategically and operationally so you will be comfortable pivoting between developing an IT Road Map to resolving some support issues. As Sunrise scales up, the role will be critical for overseeing our digital lifecycle by predicting issues, minimising user impact, automating resolutions and ensuring high availability of our tools. As part of the Operations Team, you’ll support building a performance and solutions driven culture across our global team by guiding, educating, upskilling our staff and supporting their daily IT needs.

This broad role requires high-level competence and experience in cloud-based services, security and privacy, and up to Level 3 help desk. Our IT environment is designed to be secure, easy to maintain and readily available from any location. We have Apple laptops and rely on standard tools configured appropriately to support our teams to work effectively and securely to achieve the Sunrise mission. We support networks of organisations to work together to achieve outcomes that would not be possible by individual organisations acting alone. We expect all roles at Sunrise to actively support the capacity building of these networks and partner organisations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage information technology (hardware, software, networking and implementation) to ensure it supports the strategy and goals of the organisation
  • Develop a sound IT strategy, initiate and drive projects utilising the latest technology and implement systems to enhance operational efficiency while supporting a healthy culture
  • Provide authoritative advice on technical matters
  • Develop, implement and monitor reporting mechanisms for governance, security and risk management practices to support compliance and mitigate risks
  • Leading, managing & administering IT infrastructure, platforms & architecture
  • Leading to strategies, policy development, projects and continuous improvement within the IT space
  • Partnering with outsourced providers to deliver a follow-the-sun help desk function
  • Developing & implementing IT policy & best practice guides
  • Designing training programs and workshops for staff
  • Conducting regular system audits
  • Onboarding new staff in IT desktop systems & application (Mac environment)
  • Budgeting, expense management and procurement

Required skills and experience

  • Experience in a similar or related role including unpaid, grassroots or lived experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of IT risk management in a high-security context
  • Experience in the administration of cloud-based virtualisation and storage
  • Demonstrated high level commitment to IT service delivery
  • Competency in a range of collaboration tools incl. Asana, Slack, Box or similar
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with a proactive approach to customer service
  • Experience with stand-alone systems operations in a global IT ecosystem
  • High level technical competency
  • Proven analytical skills & ability to diagnose & resolve problems & automate resolutions
  • Developing and implementing IT plans and policies
  • Documentation skills (e.g. user guides, short training videos, presentations)
  • Understanding and interest in new technologies and trends
  • Ability to self-manage to deadlines and with competing priorities
  • A passion for action on climate change and a commitment to social justice
  • Tertiary qualifications in IT or equivalent industry experience
