Your Head

You’re a strategic and creative thinker with an unstoppable hunger for climate justice.You’ve got a track record of identifying, guiding and implementing interventions to make positive change in the business sector, informed by sharp power analysis and advanced communication skills. You have a sound understanding of the Australian energy sector, and working knowledge of the opportunities and challenges of repowering the economy with renewable energy.

About the Role

You will be relied upon for strategy development and guidance on how to speed the process of repowering Australian business with renewable energy - particularly the heavy industry sector. You will work to shift businesses and influential industry leaders to speed their own decarbonisation efforts and advocate for the policy settings needed to move faster still. Your work could include anything from analysing supply chains, dreaming up and incubating innovative or unexpected alliances, or convening allies to brainstorm urgent responses to a major new announcement.

You will build and maintain relationships with, as well as provide support and advice to, community and civil society to help them build stronger campaigns. Your research, analysis, and networks will enable you to support campaign interventions to hasten the shift from fossil fuels to renewables and storage and to create new employment and export opportunities powered by renewable energy.

Key responsibilities (Your Mission)

  1. Develop, articulate and evaluate compelling industry-focussed campaign strategies and tactics;
  2. Facilitate, conduct and/or commission relevant research, analysis and horizon scanning to inform the development of effective interventions by private sector and civil sector actors, and supporting movement partners to do likewise;
  3. Build relationships with relevant stakeholders to build a deeper understanding and analysis of how the Australian energy industry could shift towards renewables;
  4. Facilitate collaboration between movement partners, business people and influential industry leaders to implement strategies to speed decarbonisation and build new employment and export opportunities powered by renewables;
  5. Provide strategic advice and support to movement partners, advocates and community groups to help them run high impact campaigns and interventions to support energy transformation;
  6. Providing quick-fire analysis and convening rapid-response interventions in response to breaking news.

Required skills and experience

  • At least seven years’ experience working in business, finance, or industry leadership roles, or equivalent experience in corporate-facing campaign roles, with a track record for achieving positive change in the real world;
  • Proven ability to develop and articulate proactive intervention strategies that support campaign goals and objectives;
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and visual communications skills;
  • Strong group work and facilitation skills;
  • Ability to stay abreast of rapid shifts in the technology, market and regulatory environment that shapes business decisions;
  • A deep passion for and demonstrated commitment to ambitious action on climate change.
