Switchboard Victoria is a community-based, not for profit organisation that provides peer-based, volunteer driven support services for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and gender diverse, Intersex, Queer, Asexual and more (LGBTIQA+) people and their friends, families and allies.

Position details

  • 0.4 EFT (15.2 hours/week), 6-month contract
  • Classification & remuneration: Social and Community Services Employee, Level 4 Pay Point 1 as per the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award 2010 (Currently $37.54/hr). Tax benefit available from salary sacrifice, package of up to $15,899.
  • Location: Remote; if in person- St Kilda (Pride Centre)
  • Reports to: QTIPoC Program Manager

Position overview

In this new role, Switchboard’s QTIPoC Program is looking for a passionate member of the QTIPoC community to work alongside the QTIPoC Program Manager in improving the mental health and wellbeing of Queer, Trans and Intersex People of Colour (QTIPoC) in Victoria and continue to build equity within the organisation. QTIPoC communities are a priority population for Switchboard Victoria’s program development and delivery, and across the organisation.

About the role

The QTIPoC Program requires someone who can:

  • Develop and deliver workshops/programs for the QTIPoC community, based on community needs and consultation with our Advisory Committee.
  • Develop and deliver racial equity and inclusion trainings/presentations for staff according to identified needs and knowledge gaps. 
  • Work alongside the QTIPoC Program Manager to provide advice and build organisational capacity to ensure our programs and activities effectively address the mental health and wellbeing of QTIPoC communities who need and use Switchboard services, in line with our strategic priorities and Antiracism Organisational Change plan. 
  • Strengthen our community networks by actively seeking to build relationships with multicultural organisations and groups. 

Queer, Trans and Intersex People of Colour are encouraged to apply. Lived experience and community work - including volunteer work - will be highly valued in selection of the successful applicant, along with professional skills, knowledge and experience.

Selection criteria

Essential

  • Lived experience as a LGBTIQA+ person of colour and/or migrant and/or refugee.
  • A nuanced understanding of the complex intersectional issues faced across Queer, Trans, and Intersex People of Colour and People of Faith communities.
  • Experience in developing content and workshop facilitation
    • Excellent writing skills, including the ability to use storytelling and different mediums to translate complex information into plain language and actionable strategies.
    • Oral presentation skills, especially in distilling and conveying key messages to different audiences with proven capacity to facilitate difficult conversations.
  • Knowledge and experience working in, or closely within community, ideally on equity/equality and on social justice issues.
  • A strong understanding of what it means to take an intersectional approach to every aspect of your work, and a demonstrated knowledge relevant to the unique needs of QTIPoC.
  • Experience working with a range of stakeholders, including engaging, maintaining relationships and consulting with diverse groups and organisations, such as LGBTIQA+ people, QTIPoC, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, asylum seekers, refugees and migrants.
  • Commitment to Switchboard’s purpose, vision, values and principles.

Conditions of Recruitment

  • Appointment upon successful completion of National Police check and Working with Children check.
  • The successful applicant must abide by the Switchboard code of conduct and policies and procedures.
  • Employment is subject to the successful candidate satisfying the COVID-19 vaccination requirements. Evidence of vaccination or exemption must be provided as part of the on-boarding process to satisfy this requirement. 
  • The successful candidate must have a right to work in Australia.
