Tangentyere Constructions, a subsidiary of Tangentyere Council, is a professional building contractor. Tangentyere Constructions promotes self-determination and community control in the construction industry.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Tangentyere Constructions delivers Property Management and Trade Repairs and Maintenance Works on the Alice Springs Town Camps and 22 Remote Communities.

Building Practitioners will be allocated by the General Manager to work on projects under the supervision of the Property Management Team Leader or one of the Constructions Supervisors.

The work of the Building Practitioner can include either Repairs and Maintenance including inspection, assessment, and completion of minor repairs under the direction of the Property Management Team Leader; or Building and Construction under the direction of Constructions Supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a first response for any tenants requiring repairs and maintenance work on their house.
    • Inspect the house to identify and assess required repairs and maintenance.
    • Undertake repairs and maintenance.
    • Report work that requires trade qualified repairs and maintenance to the Team Leader.
  • Undertake building work under the direction of the Constructions Supervisor.
  • Contribute to the project management of subcontractors.
  • Record, document and photograph all requests, work undertaken, and material used.
  • Observe and maintain Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria

Required

  • Demonstrated work experience in the building and construction industry.
  • Relevant Vocational Educational Training qualifications.
  • Good spoken, written communication and computer skills.
  • Organisational skills including the ability to plan and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work respectfully in an intercultural environment with tenants, co-workers, and subcontractors.
  • Ability to read, understand and to follow policies, procedures, and plans.
  • Current NT Drivers Licence, White Card, Ochre Card, and Current Satisfactory Police Check.

Desired

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development.
  • Ability to become registered with the Building Practitioners Board.
  • Ability to gain or maintain accreditation with a trade related industry group.
