Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) is a community controlled Public Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from the Alice Springs Town Camps, Urban Alice Springs and Central Australia.

First incorporated in 1979, the organisation was finalist in the 2016 Reconciliation Australia, Indigenous Governance Awards and is one of the 10 largest Aboriginal Corporations in Australia.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The finance officer works as part of a team of finance officers that is responsible to the accountant and chief finance officer. The team of finance officers works together to prepare purchase orders, pay suppliers, book travel, bill clients, handle cash for sitting fees and process weekly payroll.

The finance officers may be asked to process transactions for Tangentyere Council and any of its related enterprises.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the accounts payable and accounts receivable systems in order to ensure complete and accurate records.
  • Administer the weekly payroll to ensure that employees are paid in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Process cash and EFTPOS transactions and ensure all floats are reconciled.
  • Assist Westpac bank clients with money withdrawals and balance inquires.
  • Manage finance records to satisfy audit, statutory and management requirements.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria

Required

  • Extensive and proven experience in bookkeeping or bank teller experience.
  • A thorough knowledge of record keeping within a large organisation relevant to the position
  • Proven experience in working with indigenous people.
  • Proven experience in the use and maintenance of computer programs relevant to the position
  • Proven experience in all facets of maintaining accurate EFTPOS and Cash handling records.

Desired

  • Experience working within an indigenous organisation.
  • Experience with Reckon, KeyPay and Banking software
  • Current NT Drivers Licence, Ochre Card, satisfactory Police Check, and proof of up-to-date vaccinations against COVID19.
