This is a specialist, independent, inclusive, senior-secondary school and learning centre, delivering Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) curriculum to young refugee and asylum seeker women, who have had disrupted schooling or are struggling to cope with mainstream school. The school offers full time programs delivering VCAL curriculum to re-engage school-aged women. All students who attend have English as an Additional Language (EAL) so developing student levels of language, literacy and numeracy is the central focus of the VCAL teacher role. The school delivers an integrated VCAL program with projects negotiated with and developed by students. It provides a high-challenge, high-support learning environment with a strengths-based approach.
There are small class sizes and teachers work collaboratively to achieve the best possible outcomes for each student adopting a holistic model for supporting the unique educational and support needs of each student, so developing strong student-teacher relationships is essential.
We are seeking a teacher with experience and qualifications in English as an Additional Language (EAL), to deliver the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).
Desirable Skills and Abilities:
You will need relevant tertiary qualifications – Minimum Bachelor Degree in Education or equivalent TESOL qualification. Three to five years relevant teaching experience, including working with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) students with complex needs and VIT Registration and 100-point Proof of Identity will be required (at interview stage of employment process).
