Scope of Position

The Conservation Management and Planning Coordinator works within the Conservation Planning and Science Team, and closely with the TLC Operations Manager and Reserves Team, to deliver effective conservation management across the TLC’s reserve estate. They lead the management planning and prioritisation, and undertake monitoring and reporting based on the Conservation Standards framework and the TLC Strategic Plan 2020-2025. The Coordinator works across the Science and Reserves teams to ensures conservation management activities are planned and prioritised against the key strategies, and actions are implemented, monitored, and reported. The position is also responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing with the Reserves Team the TLC’s Fire Management Policy and Fire Management Plans.

The Conservation Management and Planning Coordinator will be called on from time to time to participate in a range of other activities for TLC including marketing and community engagement (i.e., newsletter, blogs, media and website articles, volunteer programs, donor and field days), administration (i.e., budgets, business planning, workplace health and safety) and long-term ecological monitoring and surveys, often in collaboration with university, government, and non-government partners. The role may include representing TLC at workshops, scientific conferences and other fora as required. The role may include other duties as directed by the Conservation Science and Planning Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with Reserves and Science Teams the delivery of the TLC management planning and prioritisation system (based on the Conservation Standards), including:
    1. prioritising the annual reserves works program against key conservation and social targets, and,
    2. collect data on reserve management and report annually on ecological and threat indicators, management outcomes, and future adaptive management recommendations.
  • Coordinate with the Reserves and Science Teams the development of reserve management plans for new reserves, using Conservation Standards.
  • Coordinate the implementation and review of the TLC Fire Management Policy (and associated documents). This includes:
    1. leading the development of TLC reserve fire management plans,
    2. working with the Operations Coordinator and Operations Manager to ensure that annual fire season preparation is undertaken and,
    3. working alongside other trained staff in Reserves and Science Team to deliver fire management across the TLC reserve estate and other land managed for conservation (if required).
  • Develop and maintain relationships with TLC land management stakeholders (including NRM organisations, Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Servce, Tasmanian Fire Service).
  • Communicate conservation management science outcomes to TLC staff and the wider conservation community through technical reports, conferences, events and TLC communications.
  • At times with other TLC staff, lead teams of volunteers to undertake management actions such as weeding, restoration, and monitoring.
  • Actively contribute to TLC community engagement including discovery days, supporter trips, volunteer trips, and contribute to TLC including marketing and communication (i.e., newsletter, blogs, media, and website articles).
  • Other duties as directed by the Conservation Science and Planning Manager.

The position on offer is ongoing, full time (100% FTE = 76.0 hours / fortnight ) and based in Hobart, Tasmania. The TLC provides a flexible work environment where a good work-life balance can be maintained.

A remuneration package based on TLC Level 2.3 - 2.6 (currently $72,234 – $80,732) pro-rata (plus statutory superannuation) commensurate with qualifications, skills and experience.
