Business Manager, Biik Environmental - Alexandra

TLaWC has an exciting new opportunity for a Business Manager – Biik Environmental. This person will be responsible for the management and development of TLaWC’s Natural Resource Management program. In doing so, he/she will have regard for the opportunities provided by the Natural Resource Agreement and other provisions of the Taungurung Recognition and Settlement Agreement (RSA). There will be a primary focus on driving the process of securing and fulfilling contracts for a broad range of activities that go to caring for the Taungurung estate.

Duties

  • Build the overall capacity of the NRM teams in line with strategic goals
  • Implementation the Natural Resource Agreement procurement strategy and other RSA-related on-country projects
  • Engage actively with local government bodies, State agencies, catchment management authorities etc to take advantage of all NRM opportunities
  • Ensure the NRM team fulfils all contract requirements on time and on budget
  • Work closely with the Procurement and Contracts Officer to ensure that quoting, tendering, joint venturing, budgeting, and project reporting are undertaken efficiently and in accordance with best practice
  • Monitoring revenue streams against budget and identifying opportunities to increase profitability through business development
  • Ensure we have a team of appropriately skilled crew to carry out the required NRM works and build capacity through training where required
  • Manage all external contractors to ensure contract requirements are fully met
  • Take responsibility for the management, maintenance and care of all vehicles, tools and equipment used by the NRM teams
  • Identify needs for capital expenditure (capex) to support Biik growth, and prepare capex proposals for the executive to plan and budget for expected growth

Key Selection Criteria

  • Very strong business management skills and experience – that is, planning, organising, leading and controlling
  • Experience in Natural Resource Management or in a related on-country field, ideally including knowledge of local ecosystems including native plants and weed identification and management
  • Demonstrable experience in supervising, leading and coordinating a team across different functions, projects and capacities for the successful achievement of contracts
  • Strong skills in stakeholder management and relationship building
  • Project planning and monitoring skills, including strong administrative and record keeping abilities
  • Highly developed and demonstrated communication skills – both interpersonal and in writing
  • Financial management skills sufficient to be able to develop and monitor project budgets
  • An understanding and appreciation of the vision for traditional owners taking an active role in the management of their traditional estate
