We are an in-demand bushfire and ecology consulting service operating across bushfire, ecological, arboriculture, archaeology and restoration ecology.

Travers bushfire & ecology environmental consultancy services industry, local and state government, commonwealth territories and interstate organisations across development, government, agricultural and resource sectors.

We provide common sense solutions across ecological, bushfire, arboriculture, archaeological, soils and water disciplines using the latest survey technology and spatial analysis. Our services are focused on reducing risk and uncertainty for our clients. As environmental experts, we keep an open mind and search for ways to implement our findings in a pragmatic way.

About you:

The successful applicant will have the choice of working from either our Beresfield (Newcastle) or Kariong (Central Coast) office. You will be involved in undertaking fauna surveys, preparing ecological assessments and acting as a mentor within the team. Ideally you will have:

  • A high level of attention to detail.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills, as you will liaise with team members from different disciplines, clients and government agencies to ensure delivery of innovative solutions that meet client and broader community expectations.
  • Willingness to be vaccinated against animal borne diseases.
  • Flexibility around geographic locations of work as some travel and some overnight stays may be required.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills in order to plan and manage projects.
  • High level competencies with the MS Office suite.
  • A valid Australian manual driver’s licence, with four-wheel drive experience and training preferable.

Key technical requirements:

  • A graduate degree in Environmental Sciences or a relevant natural resource discipline.
  • A minimum 3 years experience as a fauna ecologist.
  • Ability to identify wildlife calls, visual identification and analysis of electronic data.
  • Ability to undertake site surveys to classify dominant tree species for foraging habitat.
  • Identification of threatened native fauna species.
  • Experience operating, or willingness to learn the operation, of electronic surveillance equipment and analysis software.
  • Competency with Anabat and Kaleidoscope analysis.
  • Exceptional written communication skills in order to write concise and detailed biodiversity impact assessments.
  • Assist in the preparation of biodiversity offset assessments.
  • Accurately identify threatened flora and undertake competent EEC classification under the BC Act and EPBC Act.
  • Prepare ecological assessments in accordance with the EP&A Act, the BC Act and the EPBC Act.
