The Opportunity

This maternity leave cover position is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a growing team at Telethon Kids Institute. The key focus of the Kulunga team is to guide and support Research teams to connect with Aboriginal children and families and to build the capacity and development of Institute researchers working on Aboriginal Health & Wellbeing projects.

We are looking for someone who has great communication skills, strong community links and works well in a team environment that will drive important work to ensure that our research has a meaningful impact to the lives of our children and families. 

The Role

As the Community Engagement Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in building strong partnerships and engagement with Researchers, Aboriginal children, families and communities across the Perth Metropolitan region. Your focus will be to closely liaise between the groups and guide our families, community members and Research Teams to work in partnership and to make informed decisions about research priorities, protocols and practice. 

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • ​Act as a point of contact between staff and families of various cultural backgrounds to ensure a culturally competent and safe interaction.
  • ​Strengthen local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and support the community to achieve their own wellbeing outcomes.
  • ​Assist the team to develop, implement and evaluate initiatives that address needs of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community.
  • ​Support aspects of project planning and development for a range of research initiatives across the project.

About You

Pursuant of Section 50(d) of the Equal Employment Opportunities Act 1984, the occupant of this position must be of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent.

  • ​An understanding and ability to articulate Aboriginal self-determination, community advancement and capacity building, as well as to a high quality of service delivery.
  • ​Proven experience in managing competing priorities and projects with the ability to exercise a flexible approach to changing parameters.
  • ​Highly developed problem-solving skills.
  • ​Great people skills with the ability to develop strong internal and external relationships.
  • ​Being a self-starter, working autonomously and being part of a team.
