Tenants Victoria is the peak body for renters in our state and also serves as Victoria’s leading specialist tenancy community legal centre. We are a respected and influential advocate for social change, working to improve conditions for people who rent their homes and experience hardship and/or disadvantage.

Through our advice line, legal casework, law reform work, training, publications and outreach activities, we support individual renters and community organisations, and campaign for policy, procedural and legislative change. The Role

This newly created position will be responsible for leading our team of specialist tenancy lawyers through a time of transition and transformation and building our responsiveness to high renter legal need through service innovation and re-design initiatives (including through the use of technology). Working with the Director of Legal Services the Managing Lawyer will re-design our service to ensure that it meets the needs of Victorian renters now and into the future and supports Tenants Victoria’s systemic reform and policy work.

YOUR DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Oversee the transformation of service design to support the provision of quality services
  • Provide leadership, supervision and support to a talented group of legal professionals
  • Works closely with the Director of Legal Services to establish and implement a client-centric framework for Tenants Victoria.
  • Identify and collect data, analytics and insights to develop a comprehensive view of the renter to inform service design and strategy.
  • Support the Director of Legal Services to develop innovative legal practice models and services for specific renter groups and communities.
  • Works closely with the Director of Legal Services to lead the review and implementation of technology solutions for innovative legal service delivery to clients.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

You will bring a strong understanding of Victorian rental law and rental support sector; demonstrated experience in the conduct of strategic legal practice; and, outstanding skill in identifying the need for, and successfully leading, change. You will be a dynamic leader known for your collaborative style and deep commitment to community, human rights and/or public interest law. You have demonstrable experience leading high performing teams and are highly regarded for your leadership capabilities, particularly your ability to empower and motivate and to instill innovation and continuous improvement into your team.
