An exciting opportunity exists to join a passionate team offering support to the local community.

Hope Connect is seeking a friendly and energetic Playgroup Leader to facilitate a weekly supported playgroup, during school terms, for children 0-5 and their parents/carers.

Maximum 6 hours per week. Thursday 9-12.30, plus additional time for planning. Day of the week for planning is flexible, can be Thursday afternoon or another day of the week (not Friday) for the right candidate.

This position is permanent part time and is only required to work during school terms.

Qualification and skills required

A Supported Playgroup Leader will be required to demonstrate the following:

  • Diploma of Early Childhood Education (or similar).
  • Experience in Social Welfare/Community Sector/Childcare or equivalent.
  • Experience in working with families and children.
  • First Aid Certificate or willingness to be trained in First Aid.
  • Strengths in maintaining a non-judgemental attitude and openness when working with clients, whilst committing to self-care.
  • Experience in responding to people with complex needs.
  • Excellent communication skills with children as well as adults.
  • Possess organisational skills and ability to be flexible.
  • Computer literacy.

It would be preferred if the Supported Playgroup Leader could demonstrate the following:

  • Experience in running a supported community playgroup.
  • Experience working with the A.T.S.I and/or C.A.L.D communities.
  • Speak language other than English.

Statement of Duties

  • Plan, resource and run the program with the support of the Playgroup Assistant.
  • Oversee the setup and pack up of an age-appropriate safe learning environment for children 0-5 years old.
  • Support parents/carers within the playgroup setting, whilst meeting the chosen TEI goals.
  • Facilitate playgroup team meetings.
  • Be willing to support volunteers and students as required.
  • Nurture the development of the Playgroup Assistant.
  • Administer First Aid as needed.
  • Assess for risks prior to each playgroup session and monitor safety during sessions.
  • Facilitate yearly fire drill.
  • Provide data to Family Support Manager to meet funding requirements and targets.
  • Any other duties, as may be determined, from time to time by the Family Support Manager.
