Our research covers a broad range of economic, social, accountability and integrity and environmental issues in order to inform public debate and bring greater accountability to the democratic process.

About You

You’ll have a knack for communicating information visually, and a solid understanding of design principles.

You’ll be keen to make an impact on big issues such as inequality, climate change and democratic accountability.

You’re someone who is full of ideas and can deliver them, who enjoys working with a high-performing team to get results.

The successful applicant will:

  • Produce and execute engaging creative material which clearly and effectively communicates and promotes Australia Institute research
  • Work with the research and communications teams at the Institute to generate content ideas
  • Have an understanding of tailoring and adapting content to suit different platforms including YouTube, twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok
  • Work in the Australia Institute’s in-house media production studio to film long and short form video content for AustraliaInstitute.tv including web shows, explainers, and interviews
  • Film and/or photograph live events, including press conferences and talks
  • Write and design press-ads for newspaper publication
  • Contribute positively to the strong team culture at the Australia Institute

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Ability to work as an effective team member and thrive in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to ensure accuracy and attention to detail of information across a number of different projects on any given day
  • Highly developed communication skills including writing and visual communication skills for online, print and press environments
  • Experience or ability to work in a media production environment, setting up cameras, lighting and audio
  • Proficient skills and understanding in social media channels, writing styles and persuasive communication
  • Ability to create visual content with minimal direction
  • High level of initiative and demonstrated ability to problem solve
  • Tertiary qualification in visual communication, graphic design, animation, film or media production, or similar.
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Premiere, AfterEffects and InDesign.

Desirable

  • Photography skills
  • Experience of CRM and CMS platforms
  • Information and data design skills

The position is full time, on a twelve-month contract, with the possibility for renewal. Salary range starts from $50,000 to $60,000 plus super - higher salary may be negotiated commensurate with qualifications and experience.
