The Sax Institute is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that improves health and wellbeing by driving better use of evidence in policies, programs and services.

The Institute has an international reputation as an Evidence Specialist, and nearly 20 years’ experience in translating research findings into policy drawing on our own expertise as well as that of our more than 50 member organisations. We work with governments, health organisations, research organisations and a network of experts nationwide to analyse policy problems and find the best evidence-based solutions.

About the role

The Marketing and Editorial Officer will take a lead role in developing a wide range of print and online products, ranging from full-scale reports, brochures, conference programs and corporate collateral, to newsletters, electronic direct messages, website content, and social media content.

The successful candidate will have a knack for quickly and efficiently describing projects and outcomes in engaging and accurate terms in a way that commands attention and is suitable for professional and/or public audiences, depending on circumstances. Working under the direction of the Media and Editorial Manager, he or she will also be adept at weeding out technical jargon and will know how to use judgement to ‘pitch’ content to a level appropriate to the intended readership, being mindful of stakeholder and audience sensitivities.

Although no two days will be the same, responsibilities will include:

  • Lead planning and compilation of the Institute’s monthly newsletter
  • Planning, coordinating and leading implementation of marketing and promotional activities
  • Maintaining effective relationships with external suppliers
  • Providing analysis and reporting of promotional activities and ensuring records are maintained effectively
  • Contributing to Communications team planning and review processes, and providing general communications support in the absence of other team members or when additional help is required.
  • Providing marketing and editorial expertise to staff across the Institute. This includes trouble shooting questions they may have or providing technical advice to staff on how to use brand assets.

About you - selection criteria

We are looking for a dynamic and dedicated Marketing & Editorial Officer who has the following experience and current skill set:

  • At least three years’ experience in a writing or editing role within a medium-sized or large organisation
  • A tertiary qualification in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Media Studies or related area, or demonstrated commensurate experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to translate complex information into engaging and relevant content for a variety of professional, policy and public audiences
  • High-level organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities to deliver excellent outcomes
  • Excellent initiative, motivation and time management skills with the ability to meet required deadlines and complete projects within minimal supervision
  • Accuracy and meticulous attention to detail
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills and a high level of initiative, with the ability to adapt plans promptly as required in response to unexpected events
  • High-level interpersonal skills and ability to develop productive working relationships and liaise with a broad range of stakeholders positively and diplomatically
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team environment
  • Understanding of WordPress content management systems
