Legal Officer - Domestic Violence Unit

The Legal Officer – DVU is responsible for delivering legal information, advice, advocacy and representation for women who have been subjected to or who are experiencing domestic violence.

The Legal Officer – DVU is required to establish and maintain relationships with agencies and service providers responding to women in the northern Adelaide region and remote areas who are affected by domestic violence.

The Legal Officer – DVU will travel to clinics, health units or domestic violence support services, in particular the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, where women may have presented as a result of domestic.

Salary Range

$68,762 – $74,636 p.a (LSC1).

Position Status

12-month contract – 1.0 FTE.

What You Need For Success

  • Be an admitted practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia.
  • Hold a Category C practicing Certificate or currently eligible to apply for a Category C Practicing Certificate. 
  • Be an admitted practitioner of the High Court or currently eligible for appointment.
  • Be able to provide concise legal advice by assessing problems logically, thoroughly and reliably with due skill and diligence.
  • Possess a strong commitment to the rights of women/caregivers and children under the law.
  • Experience in working autonomously and as a member of a team showing commitment to achieving team objectives and organisational goals.
  • Experience in communicating effectively with a wide range of people from cultural, ethnic and indigenous backgrounds and/or persons with a physical or mental illness
  • An understanding of legal assistance models and pathways for legal and non-legal referrals in South Australia.
  • Knowledge of crisis support services, and social support services (including legal services) available to victims of domestic violence.
