The role

Technology is core to GetUp's ability to radically redefine what‘s politically possible in Australia. The tech team is a dynamic, innovative, and driven group of experienced, developers and data analysts who work closely with GetUp campaigners and organisers to build innovative digital campaign strategies and tools to amplify their members' voice, time, and money – so they can’t be ignored.

This team generate ideas that push the boundaries of tech to shape what the future of collective action might look like and in order to do this they need an experienced technologist to help turn these ideas into reality. As a Junior Full Stack Developer, you will own the below tasks:

  • Developing and maintaining high quality code
  • Monitoring and analysing data trends, and suggesting responses
  • Supporting the effective management of technical infrastructure including all layers of the application stack
  • Supporting the integration of custom systems, data sources and reporting across teams
  • Working with other teams to ensure the effective use of technology;
  • Participating in a strong team culture of experimentation, innovation, evaluation and learning
  • Working within the tech team to execute its strategy and meet its goals

About you

This position will suit someone who seeks out a challenge, is a true out of the box thinker, risk taker, and enjoys solving complex and varied problems that matter. Ideally you also love writing software and are excited to work with talented developers that care as much about making the world a better place as you do.

Desired technical experience

Familiar with current front-end and back-end web development languages and frameworks such as the following:

  • JavaScript/React, HTML5, various CSS frameworks
  • Ruby/Rails, JavaScript/Node.js
  • G-NAF, custom application data models in MySQL/Postgres/Redshift

Ideal general experience includes:

  • Passionate about growing and strengthening a movement of everyday people to take action for change on a wide range of issues
  • Experience working cross functionally across diverse business areas to deliver digital projects
  • Comfortable querying, processing, and managing large, non-homogenous data sets
  • Can work with, integrate, and extend cloud-based hosting and services
  • Interested in learning new languages and tools
  • Keen to assist and mentor other developers, staff, and volunteers
