The Company

The Waste Management and Resource Recovery Association of Australia (WMRR) provides a range of services to support members, including advocacy, conferences and networking events, high value information, learning and training.

Their membership covers the entire spectrum of the industry including landfill, recycling and resource recovery, energy from waste, e-waste, organics, construction and demolition, commercial and industrial, hazardous and biohazardous waste sectors, as well as remanufacturing and product development.

The Role

Reporting directly to the CEO the roles’ purpose is to support and manage all Board, Branch, and Division Processes, and lead research, analysis, and policy development for the Association.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Undertake relevant research and policy development, including analysis in industry trends and data, as well as provide evidence-based policy positions for the Association.
  • Support the CEO in advocacy on state and federal issues, write submissions, negotiate with senior regulators at state and local level.
  • Responsible for all aspects of Branch and Division meetings, including election processes.
  • In conjunction with the CEO, prepare meeting papers and reports, and provide support to the Board and its Committees.
  • Manage Board governance - ASIC reporting, maintain register of Interests, responsible for President/Vice President and Director election processes.
  • Management of Association statutory obligations - convene AGM, prepare, and publish Annual Report.
  • Assist CEO with information dissemination, including through WMRR’s newsletters, media releases, external articles, and other industry messaging.
  • Assist WMRR events manager as required (major and minor events), including but not limited to speech notes and industry trend information.
  • Provide operational support to CEO and alternate representation on external stakeholder engagement as required.
  • Manage and maintain relevant WMRR website pages, including content to ensure up to date and accurate.

About you

This role will suit someone with a passion for waste management and resource recovery industry and a strong interest in the circular economy who wants to be part of leading change through providing great policy and informed advice to industry.

You will also resonate with being part facilitator of robust discussion, a natural collaborator and networker and someone who distils information quickly to arrive at an informed and well evidenced position.

Ideally you will possess:

  • Recent experience in a similar role ideally with a membership based or similar business model
  • Excellent research and analysis skills, enabling an ability to prepare evidence-based policy positions and submissions
  • Experience working with boards, senior executives, and technical experts
  • Exceptional communication skills to convey sharp on point messaging to a variety of audiences
  • High attention to detail and time management skills
  • Industry experience across waste and/ or circular economy principles
