The role

Reporting to the GM of Sustainability, this position is critical in providing sustainability leadership, understanding and meeting investor ESG disclosure requirements, and leading the response to climate change.

Key responsibilities will include:

Maintain leadership and excellence in ESG performance, with a focus on climate change including:

  • Review preparedness for climate change in governance, systems, performance, and products
  • Deliver against the strategy with a focus on climate risk, resilience, standards, performance, biodiversity, and scope 3 emissions

Reporting and Governance

  • Lead external ESG investor reporting, through the Annual and Quarterly reports, ESG indices, and oversight of independent assurance of carbon, waste, and water performance
  • Direct engagement with security holders to share ESG performance
  • Oversee internal ESG reporting processes, including continuous systems improvement, together with Group STI and sustainability scorecards across all divisions
  • Collaborate with sustainability leaders in the commercial and residential divisions to set, incorporate, and monitor minimum performance standards in the Investment Committee governance processes
  • Collaborate with internal colleagues to provide high quality technical inputs to ESG reporting, e.g., GRI, NGERS, Taskforce for Climate-related Financial Disclosures, UNPRI, GRESB, and our Integrated Annual Report.

Industry associations and policy

  • Coordinate company position and responses on industry-based advocacy, such as through the Property Council of Australia, the Green Building Council of Australia, and efforts led by city councils and other relevant bodies
  • Represent the company at industry roundtables and working groups.

Drive strong engagement with key stakeholders

  • Develop and manage trusting relationships with all levels of stakeholders, internally and externally
  • Establish and maintain relationships with relevant external reporting bodies and participate in industry groups

About you

You will bring proven experience as a strategic and tactical sustainability professional, with an understanding of climate change and a high level of commercial astuteness. You do not have to have come from the property sector however it would be advantageous to have worked in an ASX listed company with operational complexity on a national or global scale.

Success will be measured on:

  • Excellence in strategic and embedded response to climate change, maintaining industry-leading reputation
  • Building a reputation as a credible and trusted sustainability leader both internally and externally
  • Excellence in balancing resources to maintain transparency in ESG disclosures to investors
  • Respected representation at industry forums, events, and workshops,

Ideally you will possess:

  • 15+ years’ experience in the property or sustainability sectors, including experience with an ASX listed company
  • Technical expertise in climate change and ESG reporting
  • Project/priority management skills
  • Good decision-making, influencing, presentation and negotiation skills
  • Commercial acumen to guide colleagues towards focused, valued activity
  • Collaborative and collegiate approach to achieving shared outcomes
