The Counselling Services team of Trinity Grammar School work in partnership in the provision of counselling related services, psychological assessment and administrative functions to the School community with a focus on student welfare and wellbeing. Our goal is to identify, support, encourage and monitor the development of positive social and emotional health of students to enrich their personal and School experiences through the provision of high-quality psychological services within a diverse School community. We work collaboratively with key stakeholders to support and empower our school community to be informed, considerate and ethical community contributors.

Working closely with the Head Master and our School Executive, The Director of Counselling Services is responsible for managing and leading the Counselling and Psychological Services Team to support students within Trinity Grammar School from Pre-K to Year 12. This role works with the wider School community including teaching and support staff across the Preparatory, Junior, Middle and Senior Schools to support student psychological, emotional and physical wellbeing. The School Psychologist role is integral in the development and implementation of programmes and policies that foster positive mental health of students, as well as the provision of psychological support in response to crisis management needs and consultancy to teaching staff regarding student concerns.

Commencing in January 2022, the successful candidate will Lead the School Psychologists to develop, articulate and commit to a shared pastoral vision focused on providing quality care for all students and assist the School in managing its obligations with regards to regulatory requirements relating to psychological services and duty of care. Along with your team, the successful incumbent will be hands-on in the provision of evidence-based interventions for students in collaboration with other staff, relevant professionals, and parents/family members through psychological testing and assessment, counselling support that may include trauma focused therapy and critical incident management, consultancy with other health professionals and to other staff - while working in accordance with School policies and procedures and relevant legislation.

This role will suit an experienced individual, preferably with a working knowledge of the independent education sector, who is looking to expand their experience in leading a team of professionals supporting school-aged boys and families. The successful candidates will also be expected to model the Christian values of the School and provide a Christ-like example to all within the Trinity Grammar School community.

Reporting to the Deputy Head Master (Summer Hill), the successful candidate will require the following;

Essential Skills, Experience and Criteria:

  • Full registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia
  • Proven track record of leading and working both collaboratively and independently within a team setting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a well-developed sense of humour
  • Strong organisational skills and an ability to meet expected deadlines, while appropriately and effectively prioritising multiple often competing tasks
  • Well-developed resilience and ability to balance personal well-being in challenging situations
  • Previous counselling experience working with children and adolescent (school age) student setting
  • Experience in psychological assessment of school-aged children and adolescents
  • Experience in crisis management and Child Protection
  • Sound understanding of the Child Safe Standards and other mandatory reporting requirements as they apply to NSW Schools, and a strong commitment to providing a child safe environment
  • A current working with children check
  • A valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate or COVID-19 Vaccine Medical Contraindication exemption.
