ABOUT THE ROLE

We have an opportunity for you to join our team as a Full time Assertive Outreach Worker. You will be working with people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. This is a newly created role and will be based from our Location at Foster House at Surry Hills.

As the Assertive Outreach Worker you will provide support to rough sleepers and to people living in unstable accommodation in the inner-city area. This role requires flexible working hours and may include some evening and weekend work.

The role's key responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • Identify areas and undertake assertive outreach activities in the Surry Hills and Inner-City area, responding to people who are rough sleeping.
  • Work in collaboration with other internal and external services to address rough sleeping in the Inner city.
  • Work in conjunction with internal teams, such as the Intake & Assessment Team and the Housing and Early Intervention Team to offer the best service to the clients we engage with.
  • Lead the Salvation Army's Inner City Homelessness Services' response to supporting identified clients in Temporary Assistance with DCJ to achieve client led housing outcomes.
  • Conduct appropriate risk assessments and safety planning prior to conducting all outreach and offsite activities, ensuring that the response is in accordance with the network protocols and complies with TSA risk management policies and procedures.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role you will ideally have:

  • A Diploma in Community Services or equivalent
  • A Senior First Aid Certificate.
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport with clients in a community service setting
  • Previous experience working in a community service setting, particularly working with those experiencing homelessness is desirable.
  • Understanding of Trauma Informed Care Framework
  • Mental Health First Aid Certificate
  • Experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and religions is desirable
  • Good oral and written communication skills
