Foley House is part of a collaborative community support team that provides housing & community support to forty-five single men experiencing homelessness with a history of trauma, disadvantage, mental health, AOD and chronic health issues in Footscray. The aim of Foley House is to maximise each client's independence through person centred and capacity building approaches to service delivery.

About the role

We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Community Support Worker. Reporting to the Community Support Team Leader, this is a permanent, part-time (30.4 hours per week, evening shifts from 3:30 pm to 10:15 pm) position based in Footscray, Victoria. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 4.

You will successfully

  • Provide a therapeutic and safe living environment for residents.
  • Provide trauma informed and strengths-based practice,
  • Apply advanced interpersonal skills, particularly negotiation and conflict resolution skills, prioritising and decision-making, early intervention and solution-focused strategies .
  • Identify and use appropriate strategies to deal with challenging behaviour and high-risk situations.
  • Work in collaboration with the Foley House Case Management Services to support the delivery of person-centre case planning
  • Facilitate access to specialist support services, including health, mental health, AOD and therapeutic interventions both within The Salvation Army and through external services.

You will have

  • Minimum Diploma qualification in Community Support Services or related field.
  • A current Victorian Employee Working with Children Check.
  • First Aid Certification: Level 1 and 2 (would need to be obtained within the first three months).
  • A valid and full Victorian Driver Licence.
  • Experience and knowledge of housing and homelessness sector.
