The Salvation Army Australia's Homelessness Stream provides high quality, person centred services to people at risk, and or experiencing homelessness. We support adults and families, including accompanying children with accommodation, case management, outreach support, financial assistance, connection and referral to other specialist services.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Beacon Catering Services Team is an integral part of our Homelessness Stream, providing much needed support and assistance to some of the most vulnerable clients in our society, who are in crisis accommodation.

Our team provides meals for clients who are in residence at The Beacon (Crisis Accommodation); as well as cooking and transporting meals to clients at Bridge House (Alcohol & Other Drugs Service), within The Salvation Army.

ABOUT THE ROLE

• Oversee all kitchen hands and all areas of the kitchens operations
• Knowledge of an ability to ensure risk management standards are met in the work place and occupational safety and health
• Give direction to kitchen hands in regards to portion control, cooking standards and wastage
• Following meals service, all washing and cleaning duties are undertaken to ensure that the kitchen is clean, and all implements are washed and stored appropriately and hygiene standards are maintained
• Meals prepared according to menu, and all residents receive the allocated meals
• All preparatory arrangements are made well before service time so that residents are able to partake in their meal in an organised manner.

HOURS AND SALARY

This is a part time time position, 30.4 hours per week.

ABOUT YOU

• Physically fit and able to undertake basic manual duties
• Good Time Management skills
• Honest and reliable
• To be available for any up skilling or relevant training
• Ability to take directions from kitchen staff and maintain a good team working environment
• Be able to communicate residents in a professional and friendly manner.
• A team player who takes pride in ensuring that the kitchen meets its obligations to clients.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE ROLE

• Level 1 National certificate in Hospitality (Foundational skills)
• A national police record check is required
• Must satisfy all visa requirements for working in Australia.
• A current Drivers licence (desirable)
