The Salvation Army Australia's Family Violence Stream provides a wide range of services around the country to support women and women with children impacted by family and domestic violence. We offer refuge, children's and parenting services, counselling, support, men's programs, accommodation and advice to women and children who are experiencing, or who have experienced, family violence.

The Family Violence Outreach Service:

  • Provides support and assistance to victim survivors of family violence to build a life free from violence
  • Assists victim survivors using a strength-based, trauma informed approach to identify goals to empower them to work towards achieving positive outcomes and regain control of their lives
  • Provides case work in a range of different intensities, from brief crisis response to long term case management to promote the safety, wellbeing and recovery of victim survivors
  • Assists victim survivors in a manner that is consistent with the aims, objectives and values of The Salvation Army and the guidelines provided by Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Is guided by best practice frameworks of governing and peak bodies, Family Safety Victoria, Domestic Violence Victoria, Domestic Violence Resource Centre Victoria, Gippsland Women's Health
  • Reports into the Victorian Family Violence Stream of The Salvation Army

THE ROLE

The Family Violence Practitioner - Rapid Response sits within the Family Violence Outreach Services (FVOS) of The Salvation Army, Leongatha. The Family Violence Outreach Service provides support and assistance to victim survivors of family violence.

As part of the FVOS team this position will provide interim support to women and children experiencing family violence, referred out of the Orange Door - Inner Gippsland. The practitioner will deliver high quality, safe and effective responses to women, children and families seeking support and safety across South Gippsland and Bass Coast.

This position reports to the Team Leader - Family Violence and is primarily based at The Salvation Army - Leongatha, with outreach across South Gippsland and Bass Coast.

HOURS AND SALARY

This position is 38 hours per week for 12 months.

Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, level 5.

SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL HAVE

  • Tertiary qualification in Social work, Psychology, Early Childhood Specialist and/or related behavioural sciences at degree level (highly desirable)
  • Education and experience in a social service environment along with specialist family violence knowledge and experience
  • Understanding of the MARAM Framework, The DV Vic Code of Conduct for Specialist Family Violence Services for Victim Survivors (the Code), Family Violence Information Sharing Scheme, Children's Information Sharing Scheme
  • Knowledge of the Department of Human Services funded program requirements under the Human Service Standards and Child Safe Standards
  • Knowledge of general models of intervention in Social Work
  • Understanding of the human rights, social justice and intersectional feminist frameworks of Family Violence
  • Understanding of the strengths-based approach to case management
  • Expertise/experience in working with victim survivors with multiple vulnerabilities and trauma histories
  • A current VIC Drivers Licence
  • Valid VIC Working with Children Check
  • Ability to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
