​Within The Salvation Army Social Mission programs, we are involved in a broad integrated range of services with an aim to bring support to the some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged adults experiencing homelessness in Melbourne's Central, Northern and Western metropolitan areas.

The Salvation Army Australia's Homelessness Stream provides high quality, person centred services to people at risk, and or experiencing homelessness. We support adults and families, including accompanying children with accommodation, case management, outreach support, financial assistance, connection and referral to other specialist services.

Our philosophy is that every person deserves dignity, respect and quality of service and that no one should be without a safe, affordable and secure home. Services are free, voluntary, accredited and delivered by professional and committed staff.

THE ROLE:

We are looking for a talented and passionate person to be our Housing Options Worker.

The permanent full time Housing Options role is an integral part of The Salvation Army's Homelessness Case Management Service.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing support and advice to Case Management team informing them of a diverse range of housing options and relevant legislation
  • Develop and maintain functional and collaborative relationships with key housing providers in the private, community and government sectors
  • Sourcing vacancies and circulating these to Case Management team, along with providing assistance and support to ensure smooth and effective referral process
  • Develop and maintain housing resource information and tools that can assist Case Management team to access long-term housing options for clients
  • Tracking long term housing outcomes and sustainability of tenancies
  • Assisting Case Management team to understand clients rights and responsibilities as tenants

The position will be based in West Melbourne, though may be required to work from other TSA sites, such as North Melbourne and Kensington.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR THIS ROLE WILL HAVE:

  • Understanding of homelessness and working with people who have complex support needs
  • Ability to collaborate with other programs and organisations
  • Strong knowledge of the social housing system in Victoria, including the Victorian Housing Register
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of what underpins good case management practice, such as trauma informed care, person centered and strengths based approaches
  • Knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act would be advantageous
