We offer a range of services including Harm Reduction and Primary Health Services as well as a range of treatment types (including residential treatment centres, community-based support programs, counselling and withdrawal management services). We work to a modern, evidence based and holistic Model of Care which can be viewed here.

The Geelong Withdrawal Unit provides a residential medicated withdrawal service for those who are seeking to recover from alcohol and other drugs issues. Clients reside in the Unit during their episode of care and are provided with all meals and facilities. Clients can remain in the programme for a further 21 days (Stage 2) post their medicated withdrawal (Stage 1) to stabilise and plan for their recovery post discharge.

Nursing staff are employed to cover the 24-hour period with clinical supervision provided by Nurse Team Leader and Nurse Practitioners.

THE ROLE

The Geelong Withdrawal Unit are currently seeking values-driven applicants to provide nursing support and care for clients seeking to recover from alcohol and other drug issues. Other key accountability areas include:

  • Clients are fully aware of their treatment plan and inducted into the programme
  • Clients are provided with their withdrawal medication in a respectful fashion and in accordance with their medication chart
  • Clients are actively encouraged to participate in the programme
  • Clients feel listened to and involved in their recovery
  • Activities are monitored and clearly communicated at handover meetings
  • Professional, respectful and collaborative relationship is maintained with AOD Support staff

The 12 bed Withdrawal Unit is in Corio.

HOURS AND SALARY

We have positions available on our casual pool.

Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Nurses Award 2010, Nurses (Vic P.S. Health) EA 2016-2020, Registered Nurse G3A.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Degree or equivalent in Nursing and a current Div 1 certificate
  • Cert IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs Competencies CHCAOD 2C, 6B, 8C, 9C AND 10A
  • Clinical nursing and assessment skills and an understanding of professional nursing issues
  • Practical experience in AOD sector service delivery, with an understanding of addictive behaviour and drugs, both illicit and licit
  • A current Working with Children Check
  • A current Victorian Drivers Licence is essential
  • Be able to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
