YOS Independent School, has been part of the community for over seven years, with a desire to see young people reengage in education to benefit themselves and the community in which they live. YOS Lawnton Independent School is a Special Assistance School, under The Salvation Army, delivering specialised, tailored programs to young people. It recognises that there are many young people who are at significant risk of disengaging or who have disengaged completely from the mainstream education system.

ABOUT YOU

We look to you to reengage students and teach within the levels of Year 11 or 12. Delivery Certificates I and II from the Foundations Skills Training package as well as Essential English, Essential Mathematics and Social Community Studies.

Our team is small and everyone is required to work together to assist our students and the school in achieving success. This involves building strong respectful relationships with a range of students while utilising behaviour management techniques to maintain the expectations of the classroom. It also involves working closely with a teacher aid, Youth Worker and Vocational Trainer, utilising their abilities in the classroom to help students.

We aim to achieve personal and academic success while preparing our students for their future, with a heavy emphasis on social-emotional learning and vocational pathways as a road map to achievement.

A bit about your experience and qualifications…

Applicants for this position must possess:

  • A relevant teaching qualification
  • Current full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland.
  • You are a suitably qualified professional that is dedicated, hardworking and experienced in the classroom with disengaged students.
  • You will have experience with students who have social-emotional challenges, along with the ability to teach the subjects outlined above
  • Ideally you will have knowledge of the senior school system and you will be passionate about facilitating and supporting student educational pathways.
  • You will have experience in developing resources, learning materials and assessments
  • Have knowledge and understanding around educational adjustment programs, individual learning plans and senior education transition plans
  • Hold a TAE40116, having vocational education training and assessment experience
