Our services create intentional avenues for young people to explore opportunities, build support networks, and access, participate and contribute to their communities. Youth services provide a diverse range of programs which include housing and homelessness, driver training, education, employment and training, AOD support, social and community activities, specialist therapeutic responses and youth justice programs.

ABOUT US

Oasis Sydney is The Salvation Army's response to youth homelessness in Sydney's inner city. Working collaboratively and in partnership with others who share and understand our values, Oasis provides access to over 20 programs and services that offer critical points of intervention and support for at-risk young people between 16 and 25 years of age.

From crisis and transitional accommodation, right through to case management, education and training; living skills, vocational programs, counselling and outreach services, Oasis works to re-establish choice, self-worth and confidence in a safe environment.

THE ROLE

We are currently seeking a values-driven and proactive Youth Worker to assist in the facilitation of the efficient operations of the Crisis Accommodation program, creating a client centred therapeutic environment for the young people using this service. Other key responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the creation & daily running of a therapeutic environment within the Crisis Accommodation Service which promotes the physical, emotional, spiritual & social development of young people
  • Ensure the young people are not subjected to any form of abuse and bullying or the threat of bullying
  • build rapport & engage with young people in order to respond to their immediate needs & offer appropriate support
  • Conduct life skills/training programs and assist in ensuring the programs continue to be relevant to the needs of the participants
  • Acquire and maintain a good working knowledge of accommodation and support options for homeless people both within TSA Network and external agencies

Reporting to the Manager of Crisis Accommodation Services this position is located in Surry Hills.

HOURS AND SALARY

We currently have a permanent part time position available, 24 hours per week. Note that the Service runs 24/7 and shifts will consist of morning, evening and stand-up night shifts.

Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, Crisis Stream, Level 1.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

  • An appreciation of and the ability and willingness to promote and support the values and ethos of The Salvation Army
  • Tertiary qualifications in youth work, welfare or related areas
  • Knowledge and understanding of youth homelessness, health and welfare issues, and appropriate intervention
  • Previous social and community service work experience in the youth service sector
  • Current NSW Driver License
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging young people of varying cultures, races, economic, social and educational status
  • Flexibility with work hours to meet operational requirements of position required.
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Be able to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
