The Transport Workers Union is one of the largest and most powerful unions in Australia representing transport workers and those who work in connection to the transport industry. The Union is currently seeking an employee to work in our Member Services Centre. The position will be based out of our Port Melbourne Office.

As part of the Member Services Centre (the MSC) you will work with a team of employees to provide industrial advice & assistance, grow and strengthen membership, develop delegates and build activism and leadership amongst Union members.

The MSC provides a range of services and plays a central role in lifting the organising capacity of the TWU. The MSC is involved in the following tasks:

  • Industrial advice. Assist transport workers in handling their grievances and industrial enquiries, including representing members in disciplinary matters and unfair dismissal conciliations.
  • Working with members, workplace delegates and workplace leaders to assist them in their campaigns to build strength and organise at their worksites and across their industries.
  • Working with Senior Officials and Officials to plan and implement campaigns that build the strength of the Union, recruit and retain members and deliver good industrial outcomes.
  • Research and data management. This will primarily involve the dissemination, collation, interpretation, analysis and presentation of a range of campaign material and information to to Senior Officials, Officials and Delegates to assist in organising transport workers, building power and achieving outcomes for transport workers.
  • Recruitment and retention of members. Holding conversations with members seeking they become or retain their membership with our Union.

To be successful you will have:

  • An understanding of how the Union works;
  • A demonstrated commitment to union values and social justice;
  • A commitment to the labour movement;
  • The ability to motivate and educate union members and potential members;
  • The ability to participate in the union’s political and social justice agenda;
  • Advice in providing union members with industrial advice and assistance with industrial matters;
  • Union campaigning experience;
  • Strong communication skills; and
  • The ability to work flexible arrangements.

Desirable attributes/skills include:

  • Research and Campaigning experience.
  • IT skills including proficiency in word and excel.
