About Us

The Water Well Project is a not-for-profit health promotion organisation based in Melbourne. Our mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers by improving health literacy. Our vision is that all individuals from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds achieve equitable access to healthcare to enable them to live full lives and contribute to the wider community.

The Role

This volunteer position is responsible for coordinating all resource officers across the organisation to ensure local coordination and maintenance of resources.

Resource boxes provide useful props, posters and other interactive items useful in the delivery of health education sessions. These resources are critical to volunteers running interactive and engaging sessions to community groups from migrant, refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds.

There may be more than one Resource Coordinator at any one time, the Central Resource Coordinator/s are responsible for maintaining topic templates as well as physical and online resources. The Resource Coordinator plays a crucial role in development of new resources, topic templates and supporting the development of resources in new regional and interstate locations.

Key Responsibilities

The Central Resources Coordinator will be responsible for, but not limited to the below duties:

  • Maintaining and tracking resource boxes:
    • Regularly visiting the storage facility
    • Ensuring the storage shed is neatly maintained
    • Keeping boxes free of printouts and other unnecessary items
    • Communicating with the Project Administrator regarding issues with resource box availability or upkeep by volunteers
  • Creating new resource boxes and duplicates of existing boxes as the scope of the Water Well Project continues to expand
  • Stocktaking and updating resources boxes
    • Keeping resource box item lists up to date
    • Ensuring resources are consistent in all locations
    • Adding new relevant and removing redundant items
  • Developing and updating PowerPoints for online sessions
  • Developing new topic templates as community need arises
  • Keeping topic templates up to date
    • Up to date medical and health information
    • Relevant links, websites and phone numbers
    • Adding interactive ideas for volunteers to utilise in their sessions
    • Maintaining consistency of formatting and style in topic templates
  • Incorporate feedback from evaluations team and volunteers in both resource boxes and topic templates
  • Engaging with stakeholder organisations to build on resources for resource boxes
  • Assisting volunteers in all locations to create their own resource stock, including ordering and creating boxes for them, or assisting them to do so
  • Providing a report to the board and Secretary prior to each Management Committee meeting

Key Selection Criteria

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organisational, prioritisation and time management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to use own initiative to work independently and as a member of a volunteer committee
  • Previous healthcare / health education experience and a sound knowledge of the Australian Healthcare System
  • Knowledge of common health conditions affecting the Australian population, and more specifically those which affect individuals from migrant, refugee and asylum seeker background.

Term of office and time commitment

  • Candidates should ideally be able to commit to a minimum of 12 months
  • Time commitment varies week on week but is expected to average between 2-3 hours per week.
