Reporting to the Head of Media & Public Affairs, as Senior Media & Public Affairs Manager at UNICEF Australia, you will be responsible for implementing our media strategy, overseeing production of best practice content, creating and responding to media and public affairs opportunities. The role works within a small high-performing media team and requires close collaboration with our government relations, fundraising and programs teams to help support important humanitarian advocacy projects with both local and global impact. Tertiary qualifications in Communications (or related field) or adequate professional experience
Previous experience in a metropolitan newspaper or television and/or radio news service
Expertise in managing government-related media such as press secretary communications
Proven track record of effectively delivering successful media and public affairs strategies
Comprehensive knowledge of the Australian broadcast and digital news and media landscape with extensive contacts across a broad range of publishers and outlets
Proven experience in proactively and reactively pitching high-value newsworthy stories
Ability to oversee reputational management, including in crisis and emergency situations
Understanding of, or interest in, international development issues, world affairs, current events
Experience in providing strategic advice to executives on external communication issues
Advanced writing, editing and verbal communication skills with the ability to write for multiple platforms and audiences
Willingness to work outside normal office hours and be on call to respond to requests from national media and international colleagues
