About the opportunity:

Permanent part-time role working 3 days per week, and is based in Newcastle

Uniting Counselling and Mediation has a long history of high-quality service delivery, being well regarded and connected with Family Law stakeholders. You will provide individual, youth and family counselling for families. This includes innovative telehealth and digital options, child inclusive practice, and psycho-educational and therapeutic groups for individuals: young people and their parents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high quality individual, youth and family therapy to repair and strengthen family relationships and individual self-determination.
  • Provide therapeutic therapy sessions and interventions to individuals, couples, families, children, young people and extended families
  • Provide family therapy to clients within complex external systems (DCJ, Family Court, schools, mental health, child protection, domestic violence)
  • Provide family therapy in conjunction with other Uniting Counselling and Mediation staff in a multi disciplinary approach
  • Provide family therapy to court ordered and involuntary clients
  • Provide assessment and screening processes for families
  • Management of casework, development of case plans and reviews for families and children in the families
  • Where necessary, provide post separation clinical services for clients referred in accordance of Family Law Act

About You

  • Eligibility for membership to relevant professional bodies (eg. AASW, APS, PACFA)
  • Tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work or other equivalent and relevant field.
  • Competence in working with issues of violence
  • Demonstrated ability to manage high conflict individuals, couples and families with complex issues
  • Understanding of child protection issues
  • Excellent communication, organisation and report writing skills

Even better

  • Accredited post graduate training in individual, youth or family therapy
  • Minimum three years previous experience in individual, couple and family therapy.
  • Experience in working with children and adolescents
  • Prior experience in group facilitation
  • Experience working with court ordered and involuntary clients
  • Experience and expertise in program promotion and liaison.
  • Experience in working within a Family Law context.
  • Familiarity with the Family Law Act 1975 and other relevant legislation (e.g. Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection Act).
