About the role

This role is a full time, permanent position (35 hours per week). Based in Cabramatta. 

This role will work with families and children from all ages, with a focus on 0-3 years old with multiple risks to provide and coordinate services and supports delivered to them under the Targeted Earlier Intervention Programs (TEI) in Fairfield and Bankstown local government areas.

In addition, this role will also deliver a range of parenting programs, information sessions, other relevant educational activities and casework to father’s and their families in South Western Sydney to support them in achieving and sustaining healthy family relationships  and improving child and family safety.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct telephone and face to face intake and assessment
  • Provide short term direct casework to fathers and families focused on child and parental vulnerabilities such as parenting practices.
  • Establish and facilitate groups or programs targeting fathers, to improve positive outcomes for fathers, children and families, and promote healthy and positive relationships.
  • Deliver community education to fathers on child protection and broader parenting issues in line with best practice.
  • Take immediate action where the safety of the child or young person is at immediate risk in line with Uniting policies and the Mandatory Reporting Guidelines
  • In Partnership with stakeholders, relevant networks, Indigenous and ethno specific organisations, identify service gaps and design programs or undertake advocacy to meet these needs.
  • Gather all relevant data and maintain appropriate records in line with the expectations of the agency and the funding body.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in social work and 3-5 years casework experience with children and families
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in conducting intake and assessment
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of child protection and experience in managing child protection concerns, including ability to identify and address these concerns with families
  • Demonstrated experience in providing casework to fathers, families and children
  • Demonstrated experience and skills to plan, lead and evaluate parent education and group programs
  • Training in evidenced based parenting programs
  • Demonstrated ability to engage fathers from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and work in partnership with them to achieve their goals and address child safety concerns using evidence-based models.
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues facing vulnerable families; principles of early intervention and the importance of children’s early years on later outcomes; and of children’s developmental stages and practical parenting skills
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours to meet the needs of families as required
  • NSW Working with Children’s check.
  • Valid Australian drivers’ licence.
