About the Opportunity

This is a permanent part-time opportunity working 28 hours/week and will be based in Port Macquarie

We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Caseworker to join our “Family Support Program”. This role is responsible for providing short term, culturally responsive early intervention case work to families with children aged 0 to 18 years living on the Mid North Coast.

As a Family Support Worker, you will work with children, youth, families and groups to provide information, support, advocacy and referrals, as well as facilitate the development and implementation of case plans, management of programs and workshops; and more.

This role requires a passionate and sensitive professional to work collaboratively within our team to build parenting and family capacity.

You need to have a sound understanding of child protection, assessment skills, strong communication and the ability to build positive working relationships.

This role is also responsible for the delivery of parenting programs in a group and individual setting, as well as the co-facilitation of playgroups including engaging with parents and children.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide intake and assessment of families into the program.
  • Provide support for families to set and achieve their goals through home visiting, advocacy, life skills, child development, parenting, routines, budgeting.
  • Assist families to connect socially in the local community.
  • Provide culturally responsive and strengths based support to families in all aspects of service provision.

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary level qualifications including social sciences, welfare or other areas of study relevant to the role.
  • Experience working with children and families using a strengths-based approach.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the principals of early intervention.
  • Demonstrated understanding of child protection issues and the ability to identify and address these issues with families when required
  • some skills and experience in facilitation of groups (desirable)
  • Experience of working with diversity including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and culturally and linguistically diverse families.
  • Proven communication skills and the ability to identify needs, strengths and potential risks.
  • Must hold a current WWCC and Drivers licence and willingness to transport families, children and young people.
