headspace Early Psychosis program is divided into 3 areas – Functional Recovery Team (FRT), Mobile Assessment Treatment Team (MATT) and Continuing Care Team.

headspace Early Psychosis is an early intervention service for young people aged 12 to 25 years, that runs alongside headspace. The service provides long term case management and therapeutic intervention (up to 5 years) to young people who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis or shorter term (6 months) to those who are at risk of experiencing psychosis. Psychosis involves the experience of symptoms such as, confused thinking, false beliefs (delusions), hallucinations, changes in mood - such as ongoing depression and changed behaviours, such as irrational anger.

This role is responsible coordinating and mentoring peer support staff to deliver recovery focused and evidence-based interventions to clients and their families. The Peer Support Coordinator will also be responsible for increasing user engagement in the service in conjunction with other key stakeholders. 

As Peer Support coordinator, your duties will include but is not limited to:

  • Provide recovery focused support services to consumers and their families, that align with client-led goals.
  • Independently manage a caseload of clients or families accessing the service.
  • Complete appropriate assessments and provide evidence-based and recovery-focused support to maintain consumer engagement.
  • Support the coordination of, and provide mentoring to the peer support team.

Essential Criteria:

Typically, this role will require two (2) or more years’ experience in your field of expertise. You will be continuing to develop in your area of expertise and be expected to provide innovative ideas to solve problems in your discipline. It is expected that you will possess good skills at navigating a complex organisation, forging relationships, and managing through influence rather than direct authority as required.

  • Personal lived experience, or experience as a carer or family member, of psychosis and/or mental health recovery.
  • User experience of mental health services, with an ability to convey considered and constructive feedback to stakeholders.
  • Previous experience of working in a lived-in experience role within a mental health setting.
  • Sound understanding of peer support and its role in recovery-oriented mental health services.
  • Project management skills with the ability to multitask, prioritise and deliver on agreed upon outcomes and timeframes.
  • Ability to manage and plan own work and that of subordinate staff or volunteers as required.
  • Excellent initiative and discretion in solving problems of limited difficulty using knowledge, judgment and work organisational skills acquired through qualifications and/or previous work experience. 
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare internal reports for management, letters, and peer support literature. 

Even Better:

  • Certificate IV in Peer Work, or equivalent and relevant to the field of work.
